An exciting week as we're taking delivery of the new boiler. Out goes the old system setup - small boiler and immersion hot water tank, fed by a glorified bucket in the attic. In comes a monster of a combi boiler, all 30kW of it, fed by the full  pressure of the mains water network.

Everyone was very confident that it would be nice and easy. The questions checking the extent of the work had been clearly and dutifully answered and after all, it's just a case of putting something in where there had been one already. Even the pipework was in place. And we'd lugged the old thing out weeks before.

This time though we would be at home whilst it was done, albeit at work. Thus you get a developing narrative as you return from work, new bits here and there, old bits gone. All very exciting. Coming home on Monday to find the hot water tank finally gone was wonderful. The electrician having taking all the wires out the week before, the final utility cupboard could finally come tearing down.

Once again though expectations were a little high and delivery of goods a little low. The plan was to have the mains redone from source in order to clear away the old steel pipe at the same time. Come the end of the week and a request for payment and this had not been done. This is most sad because of the lovely, shiny, functional new boiler sitting in the corner. The plumber's sparky had even managed to cunningly reappropriate the immersion's power for the boiler. That the thermostat came with no instructions and thought it was 2004 was also a slight issue.

Sigh. Plus ca change. A gentle querying email exchange later and the plumbers will be coming back to sort things out, this time with the insistance that someone will be in to tell them exactly how they want it done.
