The dining room is a near identical construction to the Hall. The floor boards in here though are a little sounder and don't suffer from being made out of annoying steel banded strips of wood. The more conventional tongue and groove system is much more forgiving to pry up. There was even one board which had previously been raised, giving an excellent access point.

Sadly, the nails here too had rusted and blown, making it damn near impossible to take the boards up neatly. Whereas the nails in the Hall were oval wire nails, the dining room had more cut nails. These are square edged, wedge shaped nails which are made by being punched out of a sheet of steel. Very traditional and what we hope to use when we put new boards down. They mostly got left behind in the joists, pulling straight through the floor boards.

All this did make stripping the wood out quicker and easier though. The woodwork by the front door was terribly rotten, as was that around the hearth and generally near any boundary walls. Again, all this earth touching business. It's not good.

There's a skip now so it's all getting thrown in! Next up is putting an order in for some new timber.

Enough for a stud wall too.
